Message From The Volunteer Advisory Council

Building Communities

As PanCAN volunteers, we hear about building relationships within our communities. We understand the importance of establishing relationships with others especially as we emerge into a different world post COVID. By getting to know local medical facilities, places of worship, businesses and community groups, we are raising awareness about what PanCAN has to offer for patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

For Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, PanCAN has two important toolkits for volunteers to use: November Awareness 2023 Resources

One is more generic and can be used in a variety of settings. The other toolkit is specifically for Black churches. Both of these toolkits are meant to be user friendly and designed to raise awareness about early detection, as well as information about the services PanCAN provides.

Building relationships within our communities is also a way to potentially establish sponsorship support. By gaining sponsorship, we gain the link to support in our communities, as well as creating a strong impact on the direction of change for pancreatic cancer.

Another benefit of building community is establishing volunteers to work within our communities. This could be a local hospital who has a team for PurpleStride, or a business who creates a corporate team. This also leads to potential volunteers expanding awareness.

Imagine a small stone tossed into a lake. The ripples get bigger and bigger, reaching a much larger area than imagined from one small stone. One small change can have an enormous impact. This ripple effect has a direct impact on the change needed for pancreatic cancer patients.

As we go about our lives, let’s be mindful of the small ways we can create this ripple effect in our communities. November Awareness month is a great place to begin. Thank YOU!
