Message from the VAC - The Year in Review
As the summer ends and we head into the fall PurpleStride season and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November, the Volunteer Advisory Council (VAC) would like to share accomplishments from the past fiscal year, as well as some of our goals for the current fiscal year (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020).
We’ve enjoyed soliciting feedback from all of you and being the voice of the volunteer network. Over the last year, we spent a lot of time focusing on rolling out a regional structure to the VAC. This structure ensures there is regional representation as well as communication that is more direct across the country. In addition, it gives the ability to make a regional impact and hit important goals.
Along with the focus of regional VAC, we worked with PanCAN’s Community Engagement staff to successfully introduce the Mission Chair role, and we led and facilitated trainings, webinars and Summits throughout the year.
Regarding National Summit, a Summit Planning Committee was established this year to help facilitate the weekend’s sessions and to provide feedback and ideas about all aspects of the event. Thank you to Andrea Bauer-Kuczma, Liz Canuas, Janice Griffin and Annette Fetty-Santilli for serving on the committee!
Looking ahead to the coming year, the goals of the VAC are aligned with the goals of Community Engagement.
We have seen the amazing accomplishments you have made this past year. The structure is working. The staff and volunteer partnerships are working. Training and resources are working.
A key focus this year for Community Engagement is to enhance and refine our volunteer engagement and affiliate structure. The VAC continues to evolve as our volunteer/affiliate structure evolves, so we’ll continue to look for ways to provide better national, regional and local support and communications.
We want you to be successful with your PurpleStride and in the role we all play in making sure PanCAN achieves its PurpleStride revenue goal of $15.2 million by June 30, 2020. As such, we are looking at ways to enhance recruiting as well as targeting markets to increase revenues in your local events.
Finally, we will continue to lead and assist in the development of our volunteer training opportunities. We want to strengthen and refine these trainings in all formats so that you can feel empowered and energized to effectively lead in your community.
Since February, we have been celebrating with PanCAN 20 years of moments that matter. YOU make every accomplishment possible. Again, thank you for a great year and we look forward to an exciting year ahead. Please stay in touch with us: vac@pancanvolunteer.org.
