Taylor Povich, Team & Individual Development Chair, Virginia Beach Affiliate

I learned about PANCAN in December of 2020, five months after my mother Judy’s diagnosis.

I decided to volunteer to assist the organization that helped provide my family and me with a sense of community when we needed it most. PANCAN continues to serve as a source of positivity for my family and me. We appreciate the wealth of information and the opportunity to connect with others.

My first affiliate meeting was on January 26, 2021. I was surprised to find how welcoming everyone was and quick to help. I felt relieved afterward as a survivor, John O’Grady, was there, and it made me feel great joy seeing someone that battled and defeated the disease living a quality life. Seeing this helped me think that my mother could too.

This year is my second volunteering for the Virginia Beach Affiliate and my first in an official role, Team and Individual Development Chair. I have enjoyed this role so far because it has allowed me to meet new people and give back to the organization that helped provide me hope during a challenging time in my life.
