Barbara Washburn, Affiliate Chair, Atlanta Affiliate

After recovery from pancreas surgery, I contacted PanCAN. I was exploring where there was a group of survivors. When I was heard from PanCAN and learned more about them and that there were local chapters, I was sure this was the perfect fit for me to volunteer. I have been our affiliate’s November Awareness Chair, Advocacy and Mission chair and each position has been a positive experience!

I am now serving as the PanCAN Atlanta Affiliate Chair and very excited as we have new volunteers ready and anxious to jump in and get us better known throughout metro area and especially to reinforce our relationship with our members of Congress.

The relationships and friendships I have made since being part of the PanCAN community, whether a survivor, caretaker, or someone who has lost a loved one to this disease, have enriched my life and sealed my determination to continue to wage hope! This in itself is a reason for anyone considering volunteering to join us. We want to meet and support you! And promise you will go to a PanCAN PurpleStride event – so much fun and for survivors like myself it is a day full of encouragement and hugs and love.
